I'm running out of places to get the snowpack SWE in the front yard. I'll scout around for another location to take representative samples from. Until then, I'll probably take those cores every other week. The conditions are so unfriendly this morning that I'm skipping it today -- have to save my stamina for clearing the driveway.....
The snow is very fine this morning, and heavier (wetter) than expected for the below-zero temps. |

| 2026-01-16 | 7:53 AM | 0.14 | 1.8 | 0.14 | 21.5 | NA | | It looks like it's must have been pretty windy when the snow started, though it's calm now. The snow on the gauge lay at a steep angle. So I used the snow board SWE for the precip measurement: actual gauge catch was .12" |
| 2026-01-15 | 7:57 AM | 0.01 | 0.4 | 0.01 | 20.5 | NA | | Dropped the rain gauge! So precip is SWE from snow board. I have no reason to think it would have been much different, though. |
| 2026-01-14 | 7:32 AM | 0.15 | 2.9 | 0.22 | 22.0 | NA | | Very windy last night and this morning. I actually had to average the snow depth on the snow board due to drifting. Still, I used the snow board SWE for the precipitation number, as some snow had clearly blown past the rain gauge. Actual gauge catch was .15"
We did have some periods of rain (sprinkles) yesterday, but only a trace. The little bit of ice at the bottom of the gauge accounted for less than .01" of water by weight. EDIT: Changed gauge catch to 0.15” per observer’s notes. Gauge catch and snowfall SWE are rarely the same and gauge catch is often notably less than snowfall SWE depending on wind, etc. CCR Coord TMT |
| 2026-01-13 | 7:24 AM | 0.13 | 0.9 | 0.11 | 19.5 | NA | | Mixed rain & snow. A little ice under the snow on the board, but just very wet snow in the gauge. It's funny, I'm only finding ice under the snow (less than .1") on plastic surfaces. |

| 2026-01-07 | 7:34 AM | T | T | NA | 19.5 | NA | | There was a very light, rough film of ice on the snow board and bottom inside of the rain gauge. I think it was probably just some of the fog we had yesterday that settled, and then froze as temps fell last night. |
