Yesterday, when it was light enough to see better, I checked the flood situation around my house in more detail. Half of my backyard was flooded. The canal that run behind my neighborhood was overloaded, fed by water from the field on the opposite side of the canal. Water was streaming across a pathway that connected the field to my street. I cleared the drain of ice, but the water was coming so fast, and there was so much, that it flooded the street. It filled the catch basin on the other side of the street, and overwhelmed the two drains over there.
This morning, there is only the rain gauge to indicated that it rained last night. All snow berms along the street are gone and things seem to be drying out. My yard is only a third flooded, and that is iced over. The grass is crunchy frozen. I need more light to check the canal and field beyond. |
