The noisiest storm I've ever heard with lightning every few seconds and near constant thunder for 2-3 hours. There were two storms the first arrived with rain about 10pm and lasted until about 11.30. It had 1/4 inch hail for about 20 minutes. The second storm was behind the first about 30 minutes later with hail for 20-25 minutes. Those were mostly quarter sized and smaller. Both storms had very heavy rain. By 1am both storms had tracked into southern Tarrant County and Dallas County. The only damage I now see are leaves and small branches. Now, it's calm and cloudy with wind SE 10mph. Morning low was 66 and forecast high near 89. One other thing was the Ft Worth sounding for the evening before had a CAPE value of over 3800. That in an indication of extreme instability in the atmosphere. I hope the NWS can provide some follow-up on this event. I am a retired USAF weather forecaster and once had an evening of training severe thunderstorms for about 5 hours. Thank you folks at the Fort Worth NWS office. |
