We cut up one more of the trees that fell in the storm. 5 ATV loads, so about 1/2 cord or so. Three more trees to go, then we will have Forrest cut down the trees that died this winter. There are 7-8 of those. Rot root up the top of the hill. We picked morels in the cemetery. Our second picking and the most yet. We will have them for breakfast the next couple of mornings. The swallows still haven't nested but they are zooming around the houses. Repaired the old houses and will put them up as well. Lots of choices for the swallow families. We finished cutting up the downed trees on Top of Hill Road and cleared Abbey Road. We still have 4 trees down on Della Street and will work on those when Eve is back from town tomorrow. The swallows returned yesterday morning investigating the new houses. There were quite a few of them so I think that they are back to nest now. Earth Day yesterday, so a good day for them to return. We did a recon to look for any dead and dying trees. What we found were several trees blown over in that big storm a few weeks ago. 3 big trees (one by the field, one below Overlook Blvd, and one next to the patch cut behind the barn), and seven 30 year old trees on Top of Hill off Lois Lane and Della Street. Wow! All still green, but with root rot. We were able to get one cut up and hauled out. More work for today and tomorrow. Another amazing day in paradise! |
