Torrents of water running down sidewalks, driveways, and street during heavy cells and persisting in-between. Larger areas of ponding than usual; ponding remains this morning, in low lying areas. Little to no breeze. During one of the later storms I looked out briefly...and happened to see a large groundhog rapidly climbing the large oak tree in my front yard! (Doubtless trying to escape flooding). |
| 2026-08-19 | 7:30 AM | T | NA | NA | NA | NA | | Cooler, but still slightly muggy. Dew/steam on outside of gauge and grass. Partly cloudy with no perceptible breeze. Ground is moist, but no ponding. |

I was not at my station at every point yesterday, during our multiple rounds of storms, but I did make the following obs:
Rain started around 8:30 am.
Sudden downpour around 9:52 am, with my gauge filling fast and immediate ponding in low areas of yard and sidewalk.
Gauge check at 1:09 pm showed 0.42" collected so far, with light rain continuing.
Around 4 pm there was another downpour and gauge collection was up to 0.78", and increased ponding was noted.
This morning my gauge collection showed 0.79".
Water that was ponding has completely infiltrated back into the ground. |
| 2026-08-17 | 7:30 AM | 0.58 | NA | NA | NA | NA | | Completely clouded over. Very muggy; outside of gauge and house windows are completely fogged up. No perceptible breeze.
Rain collected was mostly from two strong events: one early afternoon and one later, starting around 6 pm. (I was away from my station during the first event, but nearby. All of a sudden there was a huge downpour with driving winds; checked gauge around 3:08, after I got back and lightning had moved off, and it had collected 0.08"). The second event was the same, at my station location; once rain and lightning stopped, around 7:43 pm, I checked my gauge; it read 0.58", as it did this morning at obs time. (Down bursts?); storms also had large amounts of lightning. There is no ponding of water in my yard. |
| 2026-08-16 | 7:30 AM | 1.12 | NA | NA | NA | NA | | Extremely humid. Still. Minimal ponding (I live at the top of a hill).
0.07" was from yesterday morning; remaining amt was from rain starting after 9 pm yesterday eve and transitioning to a tornado-warned storm after 10 pm.
I called the NWS, per my SKYWARN connection, as the majority of the catch happened within half an hour (after storm was tornado-warned). |
| 2026-08-15 | 7:30 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | NA | NA | NA | | Grey with nearly solid cloud cover. Very little breeze and very muggy. |

| 2026-08-13 | 7:30 AM | 0.08 | NA | NA | NA | NA | | Rain started back up around 3:15 pm yesterday; not sure exactly when it stopped. When I checked my catch, around 6:26 pm, the amt collected was 0.08"...where it was this morning.
Very dense fog this morning; no sun peeking through yet. Not too warm, but feels somewhat muggy. |
| 2026-08-12 | 7:30 AM | 2.68 | NA | NA | NA | NA | | Storm started yesterday around 3:04 pm. Within a short time there was around 0.7" in catch (visualized from a distance, as there was continuous lightning); sidewalks and driveways, even at my location which is at the top of a hill, looked like full streams. I called the NWS to report that, along with a tree down from what appeared to be a brief imbedded spin up tornado* in my back yard! By 4:30 pm my inner catch was overflowing and my outer catch was filling up fast. During the storms, which lasted all day and into the early evening, multiple transformers near me got blown. There are multiple large trees down all around my area. We lost power early on; it was finally restored around 10 pm. AEP crews finally got the tree on electric lines behind me (abutting neighbor's yard, where the tornadic circulation dropped) removed, and lines fixed, around 9:30 pm.
* green skies, ears popping, sudden drop down of vortex winds, pulling air through my closed up house, loud swirling, whooshing sound, debris scattered chaotically around my back yard, spin up stopped and picked back up abot 3 feet from my back sun room!
Surprisingly, there is little ponding in my yard; I have not been out to observe any nearby areas or streams yet.
This morning it is looking stormy again already and the winds are picking up. |
| 2026-08-11 | 7:30 AM | 1.09 | NA | NA | NA | NA | | Multiple thunderstorms, starting yesterday morning, off and on into the evening and overnight. Very strong wind gusts with later storms; broke off several 4-5 foot tree limbs on my property. Near constant lightning. There is now residual ponding in my yard; none in street, but I live at the top of a hill with good drainage.
This morning it is dark and completely clouded over. Very light breeze. Feels muggy. |
| 2026-08-10 | 7:30 AM | 0.12 | NA | NA | NA | NA | | Cloudy with light winds. Sun trying to come out. Feels muggy but breeze feels cooler.
Rain was from a storm last eve just after 11 pm; lots of lightning, so unable to note times and amts moment by moment. |
| 2026-08-09 | 7:30 AM | 0.14 | NA | NA | NA | NA | | Thunderstorm last eve between 10:15 and 10:35 pm. Almost continuous lightning, so I was unable to check my gauge immediately afterwards; I dont know if we received any rain overnight.
This morning it is again very muggy (outside of gauge is completely fogged up)and still. Some sun peeking out. |
| 2026-08-08 | 7:30 AM | 0.61 | NA | NA | NA | NA | | Rain received was from storms yesterday morning, afternoon, and evening: From around 9:30-10:15 am the skies turned dark yellow and then pitch black! Strong winds, driving rain and water flowing swiftly down sides of street; we received 0.42" during that storm. Around 3:30 pm heavy rains started again; when I checked my gauge around 4:20 pm the catch was at 0.57". We received a bit more as the storms trailed off; at 8:40 pm I did a final gauge check and the catch was at 0.61"...where it still was this morning.
This morning it feels muggy and the sky looks hazy, though there is some sun peeking through. There is no residual water ponding anywhere. |

At first there was some strong winds, but most of the time afterwards there was little to No wind; there was No perceptible wind at my obs time either. As I finally fell asleep after around 5 am, I do not know when the rain actually stopped; it was not raining at this morning's obs time. During the storm, esp during the heavier bands, there was a lot of lightning. Even with all of that rain, the ground is barely moist looking and there is no ponding anywhere. The air this morning is very still and, though cool, very muggy. The skies are solid cloud cover and it is dark out for the time of day. |

Completely clear and sunny skies, more blue than in awhile. Air feels cool and crisp. |
| 2026-07-22 | 7:30 AM | 1.39 | NA | NA | NA | NA | | Rain storms off and on all day yesterday and into the overnight period. Heaviest storm was between 4:00-4:19 pm, during which there was very strong winds and a huge downpour (down burst?), where the rain was driving nearly horizontally. Water was running down driveways and the street like rivers; I live on a hill, so no water was actually crossing the road at my location. After my morning obs yesterday there was a smaller rain event and my gauge reading was up to 0.46 when I checked it around 12:30 pm; after the 4 pm rain event my gauge had over 1" of rain in it. After the morning storm I went out briefly and noticed that the nearby creeks were very full, though they did not appear to be out of their banks; I did not observe them after the 4 pm storm. This morning there is no residual ponding anywhere. Air feels cool and crisp and skies are mostly clear with just a few scattered cirrus clouds skirting by fairly quickly. Noticeable breeze at surface level. Some very faint smoke smell on breeze. |

| 2026-07-17 | 7:30 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | NA | NA | NA | | Today it's not so much about the lack of rain (though getting rain would certainly help!), but the dense, grey-yellow smoke everywhere, drifting down from the Canadian wildfires. Even indoors, my HEPA filter is struggling to keep the air quality even in the unhealthy zone and it's requiring a mask and inhaler to breathe very well at all.
Hope we Do get rain soon! |

Ground is moist but no residual ponding, even though water was running down streets and sidewalks and ponding in low areas, during the rain event itself; the water has completely inflitrated back into the ground and evaporated from hard surfaces. |

I checked my gauge around 3:42 pm, after it rained and once the accompanying lightning was far enough away, and it was reading 0.03". | 2026-06-15 | 7:30 AM | 0.42 | NA | NA | NA | NA | | Rain was during the period from 1625-1928; I could literally see it filling up to a guestimate of 0.3" within a few minutes, and there was running water along streets and ponding in all low lying areas of yard and sidewalk. Between 1615-1700 the Temp went from 82* F to 67.6* F! We were under a severe thunderstorm warning. Dark skies, heavy rain and lots of wind. At 1710 lightning moved off and rain was light; gauge read 0.34". Another round of heavier rain and wind came around 1727; at 1850 total in gauge was 0.42". By 1928 there was bright sun. | 2026-05-28 | 7:30 AM | 0.95 | NA | NA | NA | NA | | At 24 hr obs time yesterday morning, it was raining, so I brought gauge inside, to empty. I left a baggy hanging at mount site, then emptied it into gauge catch once I brought it back outside; it measured at 0.01"
Around 0830 the rain got even heavier, so I checked gauge; at 0833 it was now reading 0.09"
Around 0920 the rain stopped briefly; the sun even came out!
Around 0930 the gauge read 0.14"
I checked gauge again around 1030; it still read 0.14"....but around 1045 it started pouring rain again and there was a lot of lightning.
Around 1100 it rained even harder with driving winds.
By 1113, when I looked outside, water covered sidewalks in low areas and water was running fast downhill on them and sides of street. There also was more ponding in yard than usual.
Around 1116 the rain seemed even heavier; still unable to check gauge, due to lightning, but able to zoom in with phone camera and could see inner catch at least 0.8"
Around 1145 the lightning was calmed down to a safer level, and the rain was a very fine sprinkle, so I checked gauge real quick.
It read 0.93" (0.79" just for that storm).
A SigWx report was sent.
Around 1419 the rain picked up briefly.
Gauge read 0.95" (0.02" from end of storm)
At 1702 I did a final check of gauge; it was still reading 0.95"
Total 24 hr catch, read at 0730 this morning, still read 0.95"
Most ponding has infiltrated back into ground fairly well, though the ground is still quite "squishy" in a number of spots. The sun is now fully out finally! |
| 2026-05-27 | 7:30 AM | 1.69 | NA | NA | NA | NA | | Yesterday eve around 1739 I noted a very fine rain. The following obs were made; gauge catch Not emptied til this morning's usual obs time of 0730.
At 1842 my gauge catch read 0.01"
At 2035 the catch read just under 0.03"
Just before 0430 I was awakened by heavy rain and loud thunder.
At 0446 the rain got even heavier and I noted water was all the way across low areas of my sidewalk and also water streaming down it and sides of road. Due to lightning I could not check gauge, but can zoom in on it with phone; guesstimate of around 0.8" at 0456.
At 0512 there was a lull in the storm; catch read 0.93"
At 0526 it was still drizzling; catch read 0.94"
(A SigWx report was filed)
At 0530 the rain became heavier again, with further increase around 0554.
At 0605 there was a lull but around 0632 it became heavy again with thunder heard around 0700.
At 0730 I made my usual obs:
TOTAL 24 hr catch was 1.69" |
| 2026-05-26 | 7:30 AM | 0.01 | NA | NA | NA | NA | | Not Aware of any rainfall, but unsure overnight. (Not raining when checked gauge around 8 pm before nightfall; also not raining at morning obs. Did not hear rain overnight and not awake to observe.)
Shook out gauge vigorously yesterday, after all the previous rainfall, but perhaps some did not dry and condensed into bottom of gauge?
Previous ponding in yard and sidewalks has fully resolved. |
| 2026-05-25 | 7:30 AM | 0.89 | NA | NA | NA | NA | | Additional obs last 24 hrs:
Rain started around 0718 and increased in intensity right at my obs time. Immediately caused ponding in yard near station. Calmed down briefly around 0745, but picked back up about 5 min later. At 0806 the rain was still heavy and around 0813 there was an even heavier event. I decided at that point to check my rain catch, which read 0.52".
Since it appeared it was going to rain all day again, I tried to make additional obs as able; rain catch was Not emptied between obs.
Time: Total amt in catch, (catch since previous obs), [comments]:
0813: 0.52"

1930: 0.87", (0.15"), [rain constant, with off and on heavier bursts]
2037: 0.89", (0.02"), [not raining; unsure of exact time it stopped; last gauge check of the day]
TOTAL 24 hr CATCH: 0.89"
Ponding in yard is taking longer to infiltrate back into soil. |
| 2026-05-24 | 7:30 AM | 0.15 | NA | NA | NA | NA | | Heavy rain started just before obs time; not sure if any fell overnight. It caused almost Immediate ponding; obs after 0730 will be for tomorrow.
Here are some additional rain events from yesterday; gauge not emptied.

Rained off and on rest of night, but did not want to monitor in dark.
Total in gauge this morning 1.31"
Ponding in yard, in usual amts after heavy rain. |
| 2026-05-22 | 7:30 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | NA | NA | NA | | Few tiny condensation droplets along wall of inner cylinder, near the bottom; just on one side. Very cool out. Did not hear any rainfall overnight. |
| 2026-05-21 | 7:30 AM | 0.31 | NA | NA | NA | NA | | The rain has stopped for the moment. All ponding water in yard has now infiltrated back into the ground.
After yesterday's obs, the rain cont all day (drizzle-light) and late eve/early morning it sounded like heavier rain and strong winds.
Throughout the day I was curious how much was collecting, so I made random visual readings (did Not empty cylinders).
Here are my obs; I will list time, where the total was at that point, and (accumulation since previous visual check):
0820, 0.12"
0940, 0.16", (0.04")
1535, 0.19", (0.03")
1900, 0.24", (0.05")
2101, 0.25", (0.01")
0730 today [Total 24 hr catch] 0.31", (0.06") |
| 2026-05-20 | 7:30 AM | 1.14 | NA | NA | NA | NA | | Severe storm, with strong winds, last eve between 2100 and 2200; glanced at gauge, when rain seemed to have stopped, which read 0.07". Went to bed after that, but noted a lighter rain started soon after I came back inside; not sure how much it rained overnight. This morning a storm started up around 0715. At obs time the inner tube was overflowed into outer tube; overflow amount was an additional 0.07". Rain continues after emptying gauge. There is a bit more ponding in the low-lying areas of my yard than usual.
I'm adding an Additional note this afternoon after morning obs: got to thinking that my report may have been Slightly under reported; there was a "tiny" amt of rain sitting above the inner tube overflow hole. Because there was lightning in the area, I kinda got in a hurry and dumped the inner tube water onto the Ground (after noting was full and overflowed and going on to measure outer cylinder amt)...versus dumping into the outer cylinder and measuring the Combined amt partial inner tube by partial inner tube, to not Miss any of the collection. (Not sure of amt that can sit above overflow hole; contacted Climalytic but not heard back yet).
Hopefully this has not caused any skewing of data. |
| 2026-05-19 | 7:30 AM | T | NA | NA | NA | NA | | Very brief fine rain last evening. Reporting as trace, though slightly uncertain, because tiny water droplets Only in very bottom of inner rain catch tube; nowhere else on or within rain catch or on other nearby surfaces. |
| 2026-05-18 | 7:30 AM | 0.02 | NA | NA | NA | NA | | This amt fell yesterday morning, a few minutes after I had made yesterday's obs. I glanced at the gauge several times during the day and no additional rain fell. There also was no evaporation ..though there was a trace of condensation this morning, just above the water line, in the inner measuring tube. Sunny this morning with cool, light winds to 4mph, per my Tempest. |
| 2026-05-17 | 7:30 AM | 0.17 | NA | NA | NA | NA | | There was a delay between signing up and when I received my Tropo gauge, so this obs is actually my First 24 obs!
0.16" of the rain was from a storm yesterday morning, starting around 0930; an additional 0.01" fell a bit later, with a brief rain.
The 0.16" amount fell within an hour or less.
It was windy; locally via Tempest around 6mph gusts; it is 6" up and there are a lot of things that seem to cause turbulence and decreased readings...esp if winds greater than 10mph. That said, the rains fell pretty much straight down at my Tropo station.
The rain started this morning, just after taking my reading; will be included in next report.
Very dark out and Tempest shows lightning less than 25 mi away.
