| 2025-05-09 | 7:30 AM | 0.95 | NA | NA | NA | NA | | Heavy rain, 51° Min/max: 51/71° Much needed rain finally came. Began yesterday at 3:10pm as distant, rolling thunder. Rain began at 3:55pm, and not the misty drizzle we've had, but steady, soaking, heavy rain. Extremely heavy at OBS. |
| 2025-05-08 | 7:00 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | NA | NA | NA | | Mostly sunny with some high, thin clouds, and a hazy sun rising, 53° MIn/max: 51/68° Five drops in the gauge this morning; not sure if it it dew or precipitation. No rain was observed even when radar showed drizzle overhead, once in the afternoon and once early evening. So I'm reporting "0." Now even the mulberry and ash trees are leafing out. |
| 2025-05-07 | 7:00 AM | 0.07 | NA | NA | NA | NA | | Sunny, 53° Min/max: 52-64° Although we were in a severe thunderstorm & tornado watch here late yesterday afternoon, all we got were strong winds picking up, a short period of heavy rain (most of the gauge total at OBS this morning), and around 6pm the very distant sound of rolling thunder. The day was otherwise foggy/ misty. |
| 2025-05-06 | 7:30 AM | 0.40 | NA | NA | NA | NA | | Light rain, 57° Min/max: 57/62° Finally, more steady, soaking rain. Tadpoles in the pond. |
| 2025-05-05 | 7:00 AM | 0.11 | NA | NA | NA | NA | | Fog/mist, 59° Min/max:59/68° Same old/same old. Almost all of the rain stayed east or west of us. Sprinkles on and off all day, with one 'decent' and brief rainfall with moderate to heavy rain around 5:30pm. Lasted just a couple of minutes and it resulted in most of the gauge accumulation for OBS this morning. Yesterday was a good day for setting out plants, but the ground is dry under the top 1/2" - 1" of soil after three days of this, so everything has to be deep watered anyway. |
| 2025-05-04 | 7:00 AM | 0.24 | NA | NA | NA | NA | | Overcast, 62° Min/max: 62/77° A short spritz of rain just before 2pm, but not enough to halt an outdoor birthday party. We've been in the 'dry slot' with all of the rain moving S-> N to the E of us and S-> N to the West of us, on the other side of the Delaware and the Appalachian ridgeline. But last night around 11pm one storm reached us with lots of lightning and a much needed moderate rainfall. Allelujha. |

We must have had another light rain overnight, too, to result in the 0.06" of yellow-green "soup" in the gauge this morning. The pollen has been awful, and we still have the oaks and the mulberries to go to flower and leaf out. |

Total rain for April: 3.57" which is so deceiving; it was a VERY dry month interspersed with two deluges, making it appear closer to average. |
| 2025-04-29 | 7:00 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | NA | NA | NA | | Hazy sun, breezy, 54° Min/max: 53/74° The singular upside to this very dry Spring is that early blooms are having an extended bloom period without shattering. Forsythia, daffodis, and tulips are having an extended run but are needing watering. |

A two day total of 0.28" --as in the previous drought, the rain seems to "slot" around us. Only 0.03" from OBS to noon; then clearing with the sun coming out now and then. At 5:40pm a single boom of thunder, followed by a very brief period of heavy rain. That was it. |

Snow continues to slide off our roof this morning. Snow is gone on patio, driveway, and roads but remains between 1.0 and 1.5" on all other surfaces. Snow accumulated on all surfaces, but melted within an hour. Nothing in the gauge this morning. March 1st and I'm still wearing YakTraks! The path to the gauge where snow had been shoveled is solid grey ice. |
| 2025-02-28 | 7:00 AM | 0.02 | 0.0 | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | | Mostly cloudy, 35° Min/max: 35/48° Precipitation was from a few showers following yesterday's OBS. Natural snow is now gone, although there are piles left where it had been plowed/shoveled. Total precip for February MEASURED = 1.90"; however when I dropped the ice covered gauge 2/16 I had to report N/A, and it had a LOT of snow, ice, and liquid precip in it that morning. So I looked at the two nearby stations who almost always report similar conditions and amounts (West Milford & Jefferson) and averaged their amount. It was 0.70", the largest single day precip of February, so I am adding it to my M-T-D totals: 1.90+ 0.70 = 2.60" in my own gardening records. In drought conditions that is a substantial difference! Mornings like this have the most beautiful "firefall" starting on the top of the western ridgeline, as the first strike of sun hits the tops of the trees on the west shore. Clouds in the western sky enhance the spotlight effect, and then the sun "melts' down the ridge a spectacular orange color. Beautiful! |
| 2025-02-27 | 7:30 AM | 0.01 | 0.0 | 0.00 | T | NA | | Overcast, 38° Min/max: 37/49° Snowpack is gone on the SW facing side of the house; still small patches on the E side; and approx. 40% bare ground on the N side of the yard. Bubbler now able to keep a small hole open in the pond while thick ice remains. First Snowdrops opening and lots of bird song! |
| 2025-02-26 | 7:30 AM | T | 0.0 | 0.00 | T | NA | | Sunny, 35° Min/max: 35/51° A very brief shot of drizzle late afternoon, even though radar showed rain here most of the afternoon. Snowpack is now 50/50 ice-shield and bare ground. Finally figured a way to measure it, since chipping at it wasn't effective at getting a clean sample. I used my metal ruler and kept dipping it in a mug of almost boiling water. That melted a clean line through the ice all the way to the ground. A representative sample of the remaining natural snow is 1.2" |
| 2025-02-25 | 7:30 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | 0.2 | NA | | Cloudy, 37° Min/max: 37/47° A few patches of open ground are now visible, mainly around the foundation of the house, low rock walls, and the S facing garden where the ground around uncut dark stems & branches first melted. Paths have widened and approx. 80% of the yard is still snow/ice covered but on paths that we use regularly, one or two footprints are now bare earth. Still using YakTrax. Lots of bird activity. |
| 2025-02-24 | 7:30 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | 0.5 | NA | | Mostly sunny, 30° Min/max: 28/42° Above 40° during the p.m. is starting to make a dent in this persistent snow/ice cover. It's melting back from the house foundation, and from the low rockwalls around the perennial gardens, and the rock edging of the pond. Once the snow melted back to expose the tops of the dark rocks, the melt-back has been quicker there. Everything else in the yard is still 100% covered. I tried again yesterday afternoon to try and chip through with my metal ruler to get depth representative samples, but it's solid ice & impenetrable. |
| 2025-02-23 | 7:30 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | 0.8 | NA | | Sunny, 28° Min/max: 28/37° With the first day over freezing in a while, there was a little snow melt yesterday, which resulted in more black ice on the shoveled paths and driveway this morning. So far in February we'd gotten 5.1" of snow, but it seems like so much more because snowpack has been so persistent (since 2/9 snowfall). |
| 2025-02-22 | 7:30 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | 1.0 | NA | | Partly cloudy, 20° Min/max: 18/29° Five days in a row that daytime temps never got over 30°; snowpack remains consistent at 1.0" and 100% coverage, despite stronger sunshine and longer daylength. |
| 2025-02-21 | 7:30 AM | 0.01 | 0.1 | 0.01 | 1.0 | NA | | Mostly sunny, breezy, 17° Min/max: 16/25° Moderate snowfall began just before 4pm and lasted several hours, but only resulted in 0.1" I learned the limits of my YakTraks this morning; when wearing them I fell walking to the gauge. I stepped on a patch of black ice that is now covered with this light dusting of new snow. Sub-optimal. |
| 2025-02-20 | 7:30 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | 1.0 | NA | | Sunny, 14° Min/max: 14/26° Still 100% snow/ice cover, although the shoveled paths have gotten a bit wider. But sections are covered in black ice. |
| 2025-02-19 | 7:00 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | 1.5 | NA | | Partly cloudy, 12° Min/max: 12/22° Persistent snowpack remains; not surprising with these temperatures. Birdsong increasing. |
| 2025-02-18 | 7:00 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | 1.5 | NA | | Mostly sunny, 14° Min/max: 14/30° Snowpack holding firm; cylinders and chunks of ice that were blown out of the trees two nights ago are still laying in the yard. Two years ago there was a mention in my Garden Journal about the pond garden blooming with Snowdrops. Not this year. |
| 2025-02-17 | 7:00 AM | 0.64 | T | NA | 2.0 | NA | | Partly cloudy, breezy, with occasional gusts out of the N/NW, 24° Min/max: 24/35° Rain most of yesterday with temps hovering at freezing. Lost cable even before the wind started. Then the wild weather started in the evening, with gusty winds & ridiculously heavy rain which knocked the chunks of ice in the trees down, pelting our skylight and in-line metal roof like rocks! Most intense between 5:30 and 6:00pm, but lasted a long time. Got up at daybreak to check the roof. Entire yard is either sheets of black ice or a rubble field of ice chunks. They look like diamonds in the morning light. I have a new empathy for what people living in 'hail country' experience. It was frightening. Oh, system ended with a few flakes of snow approx 11pm. Entire snowpack is solid ice at OBS. |
| 2025-02-16 | 7:30 AM | NA | 0.8 | 0.28 | 2.5 | NA | | Fine drizzle, 33° Daytime hi temp yesterday: 30* Night low temps: mostly 33° with a short dip to 32° Of all days to drop my gauge! Contents were a mix of ice, snow, and liquid --encased in an ice shell. When I lifted it off the bracket, it shot out of my hand. A lost sample, ugh. The light snow began around 12:30pm and at 5:45pm changed to fine sleet. Measured snowfall amount then (0.8") and sent Significant Weather Report. Could hear moderate to heavy rain at 2:45am; temp was 33° At OBS there was 0.11" of ice measured with caliphers. Several small limbs are down and the windsock is hanging so low it's almost touching the ground. I see why it's so important to not wait until OBS to measure new snow: at 5:45pm snow was 0.8" and this morning on the cleared portion of the snowboard, it is only 0.3" This is the sample I used for the Snowfall SWE. Snowpack is 2.6" measured next to the cleared section of the snowboard; it is impossible to get to the bottom of what is now approx 1/4 - 1/2" of ice at the bottom. |
| 2025-02-15 | 7:30 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | 1.5 | NA | | Overcast, 24° Min/max: 23/32° Snowpack is persistent at 1.5" Have to take a different route to the snowboard; the uneven, frozen solid footprints are dangerous to walk on --even with YakTracs & a ski pole. Snow on top of this thick ice layer is going to be very interesting. |
| 2025-02-14 | 7:00 AM | 0.02 | 0.0 | 0.00 | 1.5 | NA | | Sunny, windy, 24° with a few orange clouds over the eastern horizon. Melted gauge contents is the results of the drizzle and light rain that immediately followed yesterday's OBS. It was cloudy most of the rest of the day with peeks of sun in the late afternoon. Snowpack is an ice-shield. |
| 2025-02-13 | 7:30 AM | 0.17 | 0.3 | NA | 2.2 | NA | | Drizzling, 33° Min/max: 31/34° Occasional light snow started yesterday around 2:30pm. A dusting on the ground by 8pm. Heavier snow was falling at 11pm but changed over to rain during the night. At OBS there is 0.3" of slush on the ground. The gauge contents is slush also. |
| 2025-02-12 | 7:30 AM | 0.01 | T | NA | 2.4 | NA | | Overcast, 28° Min/max: 27/34° A dusting of fluffy, fresh snow on top of existing snowpack was too little to measure with the ruler. Lots of animal tracks in the new snow layer. |
| 2025-02-11 | 7:30 AM | T | T | NA | 3.0 | NA | | Overcast, 17° Min/max: 14/34° A brief period of some snow flurries approx. 8:30am. Snowpack is very difficult for the metal ruler to penetrate with ice layers, so I'm measuring the side of the uncleared part of the snowboard to include the bottom layer of solid ice. |
| 2025-02-10 | 7:00 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | 3.0 | NA | | Partly cloudy, 23° Min/max: 23/31° Snowpack is 100% with 3.0" on snowboard. |
| 2025-02-09 | 7:30 AM | 0.52 | 2.2 | NA | 3.0 | NA | | Overcast, 26° Min/max: 26/33° Snow began around 7:30pm and by 9pm it was mostly sleet. There is a distinct ice layer that needed to be pushed through to measure. I'm leaving the core sample NA because the measurement of 0.63" is so much larger than the gauge SWE. I must have taken the sample from the uncleared portion of the snowboard, which makes sense given it was solid ice. [2/10: rev'd the snowpack total from 2.3 to 3.0" after this morning's OBS to include ice layer at the bottom.] |
| 2025-02-08 | 7:30 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | T | NA | | Light overcast, 21° Min/max: 20/37° Was in the 20°s all day & briefly touched 30° The 37° was during the overnight before yesterday's OBS. Approx 80% is still snow/ice covered with a lot of black ice around the edges from melt during yesterday's sunshine. Another YaxTrak OBS. |
| 2025-02-07 | 7:30 AM | 0.12 | NA | NA | 0.2 | NA | | Mostly cloudy, 35° and breezy. Min/max: 34/36° Since yesterday's OBS it's been a complete sampling of winter precip. Sleet changed to snow and was adding to the existing snowcover, but before I could measure it, it changed over to rain. Gauge contents were completely liquid at this morning's OBS. "Snowcover" is an ice shield; had to use the corner of the metal ruler to chip through it. I ususally do several sample locations, but not this morning! Another YakTrac day; used them yesterday afternoon to get to the grill to BBQ. |
| 2025-02-06 | 7:30 AM | 0.23 | 0.5 | NA | 0.5 | NA | | Snowing, 26° Min/max: 35/32° Fine sleet was falling while I was outside swapping out the gauges and measuring the snow (I could hear it hitting my down jacket). But in a few minutes as I was melting the contents of the gauge, it mixed and now changed back over to snow. Gauge contents at OBS appeared to be all snow; but had to have a lot of sleet, too --in order to get 0.23" liquid from just 0.5" of snow on the ground. |
| 2025-02-05 | 7:30 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | 0.0 | NA | | Cloudy, 22° Min/max: 22/41° Snow only remains in piles where it had been plowed or shoveled. Still wearing YakTrak though, as there is approx 5' between the walkway and the gauge that is an ice-shield. |
| 2025-02-04 | 7:30 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | T | NA | | Mostly sunny, 36° Min/max: 36/44° Yesterday's temps made quick work of the snow; just a trace remains in the shadiest parts of the yard. |
| 2025-02-03 | 8:00 AM | 0.11 | 1.1 | 0.11 | 1.1 | 0.11 | | Mostly cloudy, 26° Min/max: 25/29° Flurries began around 5pm. Temps never got out of the low-mid 20°s all day (it was 26° at 4:30pm) but started to rise before midnight. Today's measurements almost never happen: the gauge and snowboard measurements exactly the same SWE, with the 1.1" snowfall being that "much mentioned 10:1 ratio" that I rarely get here. Lots of animal tracks in the fresh snow: mouse, rabbit, and what looks like fox tracks across the pond. |
| 2025-02-02 | 7:30 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | T | NA | | Partly cloudy, 14° also the overnight low temperature. Snowpack remains the same after yesterday's return to cold temps. Area around the gauge is an ice-field. Another YakTrax OBS. This morning there is a large "ice volcano" over the pond bubbler and pond had re-frozen. More bird calls. |
| 2025-02-01 | 7:00 AM | 0.04 | 0.0 | 0.00 | T | NA | | Overcast, 32° with a NW breeze. Min/max: 32/40° Dramatic reduction in snowpack; only approx 10% of natural snow left. Fog yesterday afternoon & evening, the Algonquin "snow eater," and overnight rain got rid of most of it. Patches remain in the north side of the yard, under shrubs, and along rock walls. |
| 2025-01-31 | 8:00 AM | 0.03 | 0.0 | 0.00 | 0.5 | NA | | Overcast, 35° Min/max: 30/32° Appears to be a glaze of ice on bluestone patio and cement steps. I heard rain but did not hear sleet overnight, so the thin ice coating must have been from freezing rain. The town salt trucks were out early this morning. Wore my YakTrax to get to the gauge. Snowpack is difficult to report; there is an awful lot of snow still out there to report a "T." Approx 75% of ground still covered, with snow depths ranging from 0.4" to 0.7" Very dry January with only 0.88" of total precip. |
| 2025-01-30 | 8:00 AM | T | T | NA | 0.6 | NA | | Sunny, 20° with an occasional breeze. Min/max: 20/46° Some flurries in the afternoon, and a snow squall after 11pm that was so strong it triggered the pond camera. No accumulation; nothing in gauge. Surprised this much snow is still on the ground with yesterday's warmer temps and high winds. Lost a medium sized limb in one of the driveway trees and strong winds. Large slabs of snow slid off the roof. 0.6" remains on the snowboard with approx. 80% of our yard still covered in snow. |
| 2025-01-29 | 8:00 AM | T | T | NA | 1.0 | NA | | Mostly cloudy, 34° Min/max: 29/36° Several brief periods of light snow flurries yesterday morning. Snowcover down to 1.2" on snowboard; but a few patches of ground are now visible where we or the dog walks regularly; and the shoveled paths are getting wider. So I reported snowcover at 1" |
| 2025-01-28 | 8:00 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | 1.6 | NA | | Mostly cloudy, 32° with a NW breeze. Min/max: 30/35° Another beautiful sunrise with a band of luminous orange, pink, and light blue clouds on the eastern horizon; and a stab of golden sunlight on the tops of the trees on the western ridgeline. Still 100% snow coverage; down to 1.6" But the paths are widening, and a few spots of earth are now visible in the unshoveled paths through the snowpack (the path to the snowboard across the yard, and the dog's favorite path outside). Snow also remains on most of the roof. |
| 2025-01-27 | 8:00 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | 2.0 | NA | | Sunny, 24° Min/max: 24/40° Yesterday was the first day in a week the temps got above freezing. Icicles down but snow still on the roof. The shoveled paths widened a little but the snowpack is still 100% with snowboard measured at 2.0" Sounds of bird activity this morning. |
| 2025-01-26 | 8:00 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | 2.2 | NA | | Cloudy, 28° with light NW breeze. Min/max: 24/28° Quite a jump up in temps from OBS yesterday to today. Snowpack is still 100% now down to 2.2" |
| 2025-01-25 | 8:00 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | 2.5 | NA | | Hazy sun, calm, 7° with frost. Min/max: 6/30° Six days in a row with hi temps under freezing. 2.5" snowcover on all surfaces; it's remaining fluffy snow. |
| 2025-01-24 | 8:00 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | 2.8 | NA | | Hazy sun, 16° Min/max: 11/26° Same as the rest of the week: temps didn't get above freezing, and the snowpack reduces by 0.2" each day. It's 'down' to 2.8" everywhere. And it remains light & fluffy. Mountain Creek must be delighted. |
| 2025-01-23 | 8:00 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | 3.0 | NA | | Hazy skies, with lots of contrails, old and new, 7° Min/max: 3/19° Snowcover down to 3.0" --with three days not even close to freezing, this must be what sublimation looks like. We had two foxes in the yard yesterday afternoon at 4:30pm. I guess mating season is beginning. Surprised with the cold snap and snow cover they'd be mating this early in this particular year. I wonder what triggers "thoughts of spring" in fox? |
| 2025-01-22 | 7:30 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | 3.2 | NA | | Clear, -2° Min/max: -3°/18° Continuing to take the snowpack depth from the uncleared portion of the snowboard. Snow remains fluffy throughout. Beautiful half moon in the southern sky at OBS. |
| 2025-01-21 | 7:30 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | 3.6 | 0.38 | | Sunny, 4° Min/max: 3/24° Took Snowpack readings are from the uncleared part of the snowboard, even though that location had less than the average snowfall yesterday. But it's marked with a green stake, so I'll be able to measure the same spot to track snowpack melting or sublimation. |
| 2025-01-20 | 7:30 AM | 0.38 | 6.0 | 0.41 | 6.0 | 0.41 | | Sunny, 11° Min/max: 10/35° Snow began at 11am and picked up in intensity in the early afternoon. At 5:30pm sent in a SWR; snow was then 4.5" and continued. This morning's reported Snowfall is an average of several samples; there was some blowing around and drifting. Samples ranged from 5.7" to 6.4" of light, fluffy snow. |
| 2025-01-19 | 8:00 AM | 0.05 | T | NA | 0.0 | 0.00 | | Cloudy, 32° Min/max: 32/38° Snow started just before noon yesterday, but quickly changed to rain. A thin gap in the clouds along the eastern horizon at dawn created another splash of bright, golden sunlight on the top of the western ridge-line forest, before the sun rose into the cloud cover, leaving a grey morning. It is brief, but spectacular; like our own local version of Yosemite's "Firefall." Heavy action on the birdfeeders as happens when a winter storm is approaching.
|
| 2025-01-18 | 8:00 AM | T | T | NA | 0.0 | 0.00 | | Cloudy, 31° Min/max: 28/38° Brief period of snow flurries yesterday morning. But unlike recent snowfalls consisting of tiny flakes that resulted in very light snow, this one had a mix of flake sizes, from tiny to large, lacey snow flakes. No accumulation. Nothing in the gauge at OBS. |
| 2025-01-17 | 8:00 AM | 0.02 | T | NA | T | NA | | Partly cloudy, 21° Min/max: 20/26° Light, very fine snow fell periodically all afternoon, leaving a dusting on all surfaces. The Snowfall SWE field today is NA because rabbit tracks ran across the snow-board. Then this morning our dog tracked the rabbit prints in the snow, over the snow-board again, resulting in it being a real mess this morning. |
| 2025-01-16 | 8:00 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | | Mostly sunny, 17° Min/max: 17/28° |
| 2025-01-15 | 8:00 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | | Mostly sunny, breezy, 19° Min/max: 18/29° Winds mostly from the NW but occasionally swinging all the way to the SW. It sure looked & felt like it was going to snow yesterday afternoon and evening, but no snowflakes were observed. |
| 2025-01-14 | 8:00 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | | Mostly sunny, 22° with NW breezes. Min/max: 22/38° No natural snow remains on the ground. The full Wolf Moon and Mars made a beautiful pairing in the early evening sky last night. |
| 2025-01-13 | 8:00 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | T | NA | | Cloudy, 30° Min/max: 28/37° Just a trace of natural snow remains at the edge of the azalea garden and base of rock-walls. |
| 2025-01-12 | 8:00 AM | T | T | NA | 0.5 | NA | | Mostly cloudy, 28° Min/max: 26/32° Light snow continued for approx 1/2 hour after OBS yesterday, winding down to a few periods of on and off flurries. Snow was beginning to collect on the bottom of the gauge, but there was nothing in the gauge this morning. |
| 2025-01-11 | 7:30 AM | 0.04 | 0.9 | 0.03 | 0.9 | 0.03 | | Lightly snowing, 26° Min/max: 26/35° Very fine powder. First time in over a week it got over 30° here. |
| 2025-01-10 | 8:00 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | | Sunny, breezy, 21° Min/max: 20/27° Winds continue from the NW, but not as brutal as they've been during the past days. The windsock is still up in the tree! Natural snow is gone. |
| 2025-01-09 | 8:00 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | T | NA | | Clear, 18° with wicked winds. Min/max: 18/24° Winds blowing things off the house and around the yard. Windsock is straight out. Found a way to keep it from getting blown out of the tree again and again: duct-taped it to the bottom of the hook. A dusting of natural snow remains only on the north side of the house and along the base of the rockwalls. |
| 2025-01-08 | 8:00 AM | T | T | NA | T | NA | | Mostly sunny, windy, 19° Min/max: 18/28° Like yesterday and the day before: a couple of short periods of snow flurries yesterday, no accumulation. A dusting of snow remains on all surfaces, except open areas where it was scoured away by the wind. We gave up on our windsock; took it down after trying three times to hang it back up in the front maple, and it blew down again in minutes. It's on a sturdy, wrought iron hook! |
| 2025-01-07 | 8:00 AM | 0.03 | 0.3 | NA | 0.3 | NA | | Mostly cloudy, windy, 18° with a few snowflakes falling. Min/max: 14/30° Wind has blown the snow around a lot: some parts just covered; other places snow is in small drifts. No truly representative spot. I took the reading of snow depth at 3pm, after it stopped and before the wind picked up, and it was 0.3" A few flakes fell on and off after that. Wind blew the windsock out of the tree again. |
| 2025-01-06 | 8:00 AM | T | T | NA | 0.0 | 0.00 | | Overcast, 27° Min/max: 25/28° A few brief flakes fell several times yesterday. No accumulation; nothing in the gauge at OBS. |
| 2025-01-05 | 8:00 AM | T | T | NA | 0.0 | 0.00 | | Overcast, 24° Min/max: 24/29° A few snowflakes briefly fell several times throughout the day. No accumulation; nothing in the gauge this morning at OBS. The windsock blew out of the tree again yesterday. |
| 2025-01-04 | 8:00 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | | Mostly cloudy, windy, 26° with occasional very strong gusts. Min/max: 25/35° Pond frozen, and ground is crunchy again when walked on. Radar showed snow bands moving all around us but no snow was observed. Replaced the hook that holds the windsock on the tree, it kept being blown out of the tree. So far, so good; today is a good test. |
| 2025-01-03 | 8:00 AM | T | T | NA | 0.0 | 0.00 | | Cloudy, breezy, 29° Min/max: 28/37° Periods of brief snow showers most of yesterday afternoon. No accumulation. Pond beginning to refreeze. |
