| 2026-01-31 | 7:00 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | NA | 10.0 | 2.00 | | -2 degrees and partly cloudy, though mostly clear. Overhead is clear, but there are clouds around the perimeter of the horizon. Ground reading of snow depth was different from yesterday by 2.0" (10.0" vs. 8.0"). I warned about the varying depths due to drifting. This was an odd reading, however, because it was only a foot from yesterday's reading. But, of course there is an accumulation on the ground from two different storms and three different ice conditions. Still, I shall report it as I got it, especially since the rest of the yard seems to concur with this reading, and not with my previous ones, which were closer to the house. Possibly the readings closer to the house had more ice at the ground level, which was hard to read properly. Sorry for the confusion! |
| 2026-01-30 | 7:00 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | NA | 8.0 | 1.55 | | 7 degrees and clear. Snow is hard and crusty, making it difficult to get a good reading. Land contour is also uneven, so the longer the snow lingers, there are depth uncertainties due to drifting snow. It would seem that while gravity pulls down the depth of the snow, the cold weather prevents much melt But, I'll do my best! |

The snow stopped at 3:00 p.m. as it was switching over to sleet. Ground snow depth was 10.0" at that time and had 1.23" of water when melted. The tube measured 1.0".
Snow and sleet continued until about 8:00 p.m. and accumulated about another inch of snow/sleet. This covering, however, was heavy and crusty because of the ice and the next morning the overall depth was still 10.0", but now the water content of the ground sample was 1.71", compared to 1.41 from the tube. The tube sample was 1.0" from the 3:00 p.m. sample plus .41" from this morning.
Overall ground snow, including previous snows, is 12.0" with water content of 1.85".
(MG note: changed 10.0" "24-hr snowfall" to 11.0", as confirmed by observer, as event total snowfall before any compaction was 12.5". OST 1/26/2026 9:16 AM) |

| 2026-01-24 | 7:00 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | NA | 3.5 | 0.59 | | 7 degrees and cloudy. Ground reading today was taken from another portion of my property. Previously I was using a hard surface which was slowly turning to ice from which it was hard getting an accurate water reading. Today, it is almost solid ice about an inch thick. So I moved out to the grass where there is no ice, but thicker snow. So today's reading will be different from yesterday's. Perhaps yesterday's reading of .33" should be changed to reflect today's of .59? |
| 2026-01-23 | 7:00 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | NA | 4.0 | 0.33 | | 25 degrees and mostly clear. A good deal of ground cover snow has melted, but it is still at 100% cover. There is about a half of an inch of ice under the snow in my sample area. Since it had to be chipped away in order to collect my sample, the water volume may be off to some extent. In fact, my sample area is on a hard surface which may collect melted water more readily than if it were on grass where the liquid would sink into the ground. So I took a reading of just the snow which showed 1.0" of snow and .13" of water. Choose whichever you want! |

Snow began yesterday at 8:40 a.m. and lasted until 1:20 p.m. accumulating 3" on the ground which equaled .25" of melt. The tube also registered .25" of melt.
The snow resumed overnight and accumulated 1.0" on the ground this morning which equaled .11" of melt. The tube registered .10".
Overall total on the ground this morning at 7:00 a.m. was 3" which registered .32" of melt. There was some melting during the day since the temperature hovered around the 32 degree mark, so there was a thin layer of ice under it all. It also accounts for the fact that the total on the ground was only 3.0" and not 4.0". |

Because the previous snowfall has turned to ice, it was very difficult getting an overall sample since the ice had to be chipped out of the grass. I would consider the melted value to be an under-estimate. |
