The temperature eventually slowly rose closer to 20° by late evening. Precipitation ended around 9:30 PM, then a period of light freezing drizzle occurred. A very thin glaze of ice resulted. The snowpack is very dense and glaciated. It is a strong 6 inches deep in most areas on average. There is a very well defined layer of sleet on top of the snow pack below, with a thin glaze of ice on top of that. Result is a crunchy surface to the snowpack. Update: adjusted snowpack depth to 7” after more thorough sampling in my yard today. |
