our air conditioning came on last night. The first time I ever remember that happening in March and definitely not early March. My goal used to be mid to late May. |

I expected a different depth between them but not this much! The sheltered location showed a 6.0” accumulation and a core SWE of 0.45” for a density of 13.3 “/“. The exposed location showed a 2.8” accumulation and a core SWE of 0.24” and a density of 13.3”/“. I decided to report the average of the two locations. Hope this is an appropriate solution. |

| 2026-01-26 | 7:38 AM | 0.34 | NA | NA | 0.8 | 0.78 | | It is impossible to separate sleet from rain. They fell together for much of the day. Could not get a core as it was frozen to the snow board. I did not enter these values in the 24 hr snowfall sections as they were a mix.
NEW ACCUMULATION. 0.5” of sleet and frz rain.
SWE. 0.41” of sleet and frz rain.
in Central NC it is very hard to separate snow/sleet from frz rain. The storms transition back and forth or start as rain moving to snow. It is very common to have a warm nose develop which cuts the forecast snowfall and creates rain or frz rain at the end of the event. Also, when rounding to 0.1” we get huge errors. Many of our measurements are less that 0.5”. Yesterday I measured just under 3/8” of accumulation, reporting 0.3” or 0.4” introduces a high % error. We need some guidance (or forgiveness) on how to address this. |
| 2026-01-25 | 7:33 AM | 0.30 | 0.4 | 0.13 | 0.4 | NA | | Currently 21 F, pretreatments are not working. A mix of mainly sleet with some frz rain is falling.
Instead of the all frz rain we expected, there has been a lot of snow and sleet. Maybe that will result in fewer power outages. Power is currently on.
Observation was taken as closely to the COCORAHS guidance as possible. I used a POLYWOOD table as a snow board. Total snow/sleet depth around 0.36” not quite up to the 3/8” mark. Ice depth from a sample cleanly chipped from the snow board was around 0.125”. Total liquid is the total of all precipitation inside the 4” cylinder the snow/sleet total equivalent water was taken from a core sample off the snow board. |
