Later storms which began roughly after 9p produced half-inch to dime-sized hail. Pea sized hail observed around 5a this morning with additional storm activity as the cold front pushes southward and colder air builds in. |

| 2026-01-25 | 7:00 AM | 0.39 | 3.6 | 0.39 | 4.0 | 0.42 | | Definitely compaction throughout and after the storm. Here's the breakdown ...
0.03 / 1.0 - Yesterday's snowboard
0.27 / xxx - Today's 7a gauge catch
0.38 / 3.6 - Today's 7a snowboard
0.43 / 4.1 - Core sample of average snowfall measurement
0.42 / 4.6 - Core sample of maximum snowfall measurement
Measurements around the property ranged from 3.6 to 4.6 but averaged out to 4.1 inches. The 4.1 inch core and 4.6 core may have introduced error being close to obstructions. But wind throughout the event did seem somewhat minimal. With the pure samples off the snowboard yesterday and today along with the 4.1 and 4.6 core samples, feel confident with the following results for the event ...
0.03 / 1.0 - Yesterday
0.39 / 3.6 - Today (weighing in the 0.43 / 4.1 to up by 0.01)
0.42 / 4.6 - Total for event (rough averaging based on measurements)
Snow ratios in mind given this was a leaf-blower snow consistency, a 0.42 / 4.6 snow makes sense though would not be opposed if the liquid amount were suggested to be slightly lower. The 0.03 / 1.0 yesterday threw me off and gives me some uneasiness. But going to stick with it and these numbers in the end. |
| 2026-01-24 | 7:00 AM | 0.03 | 1.0 | 0.03 | 1.0 | 0.03 | | Leaf-blower snow consistency. Very light & fluffy.
Snow board amazingly averaged 1-inch. Very little wind. Also 1-inch in the can. Crazy it measured to 0.03 liquid.
I will carry that for the snowfall and snowpack SWE's. I am not sure whether we were already dealing with compaction early on in the event, that is, that the 1.0 measured may have been 1.3. However given the dendritic nature of the snow this seems surprising. Cold, arctic air had sunk in during the day and was well in place by the time the snow started around midnight. Very light into 7a. |
