They are a deeply treasured and cherished part of so many human cultures. (system would not let me enter this report as a multi-day accumulation event - error message said 6:10 p.m. start time overlapped with previous 5:00 p.m. single day observation report). Intermittent embedded brief, mild thunderstorms (increased brief wind gusts with lightning and thunder) were embedded in this 24-hr rain event overnight. The wind gusts and lightning-thunder briefly woke me up several times overnight (2-3 a.m.?), but I did not get up to make observations or take notes. Fell back asleep quickly. Very relaxing to sleep with sound of rain on the roof and mild thunder - Chorus Frogs reemerged at 8:30 p.m. May 20 and began singing at time of observation this eve. - very late/past their typical spawning season - this rain was very needed and greatly appreciated for vegetation, agriculture and wildlife! Temp of 44F at time of observation was a little too cool for American and Canadian toads, and Cope's Tree frogs to join the pond party - they had emerged two weeks ago to begin spawning but stopped as record high daytime temps 90F, 30 mph winds, dewpoints of 40F and zero rain for 10 consecutive days nearly dried up the pond. Hope they also reemerge and resume spawn later in the week when temps are expected to rise. |

I measured 1.53 inches of snow depth, and the SWE measured 0.15 but the 24-hour snowfall field and Snowpack field will not accept these numbers - so I entered T. ***Based on observer remarks - Updated observation to remove 1.53" in precipitation column. Updated snowfall and snowpack depth from T to 1.5" and snowfall SWE from T to 0.15" -MKM** |
