At about 2115 in the 27th, the National Weather Bureau in Gaylord Michigan, issued a Severe Thunderstorm warning for Kalkaska, MI and Crawford County, Michigan for heavy rain, hail and possible flooding. It was moving Southeast at 30 mph.
The storm arrived at my station at about 2223 with heavy rain, no wind and some lightning and thunder. My temperature was 75 degrees. The heavy rain lasted until 2236 then moderated to moderate rain, no wind or hail. The rain was light until 2253 then it became heavier and lasted until 2242. At 2254 it became heavy again until 2314. At 2319, it became moderate again until 2321. The temperature had dropped to 69 degrees. At 2323 it was moderate until 2330. At 2330 it became lighter and a light puff of wind arrived for a very short period. The lightning/thunder was probably only 20 percent of the storm. The brightest flash was about 2345 with thunder 10 seconds later, so by my counting that would be 10k feet or 1.9 miles from my station. Very little wind, no hail and a temperature drop of 6 degrees. The times are from my digital watch, set by NIST in Colorado. |
