| 2026-02-05 | 7:00 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | NA | NA | NA | | Week 2 after Winter Storm Fern, and it was announced yesterday, public schools will be closed the rest of this week making 2 weeks that schools have been closed due to many side streets, sidewalks, and parking lots still covered in ice. On my road, everyone's driveway is still a sheet of ice except for mine as my husband used his skid loader to break it up and put it in a big pile adjacent to the driveway. All ponds around us remain frozen, and just yesterday it was announced in the news that our county is woefully low on salt for roads. In fact, there is A nationwide shortage right now, and our county will only use the salt on the extremely hazardous areas in order to conserve. They have no idea when their orders for more salt will arrive. Approximately 1,000 lbs of salt has been used on Christian County Roads and an additional 1,400 lbs in Hopkinsville alone. It has been very cold during these 2 weeks since the storm, so not a lot has melted, but we have a warming trend starting tomorrow and lasting through next week with temps expected in the 50s and 60s, so that will help tremendously in getting the rest of the roads cleared..Some neighborhoods in our county have never been touched. |

Christian County is getting assistance today from 4 surrounding counties to help clear roads bc they are still covered in sheets of ice and treacherous. We have not had Mail delivery all week. School is closed all week. My doctors office has been closed all week along with some other businesses.
Ice on vehicles has melted mostly, but the ice on the ground and roads will be around for quite a while bc it's so thick & the temps so cold. |
