| 2025-03-06 | 7:00 AM | 0.08 | T | T | 0.0 | 0.00 | | I would describe it as being raw outside this morning, with a drizzly precipitation. The temperature at the nearby Kentucky mesonet is hovering just above freezing…33, so technically I guess it would not be freezing drizzle. The low has been 32, and there was a light glaze of ice on some of the vehicle windshields, so there has been some freezing rain during the early morning hours. Rain on and off through the day yesterday. Precipitation mixed with and changed over to snow briefly at times yesterday evening, especially about 9 p.m. when a particularly narrow band of heavier precipitation moved through and laid down some snow grains or snow pellets. That particular band left a dusting on top of some of the vehicles. Otherwise, precipitation seemed more of a light mix of rain and snow in general. The ground is quite warm as any snow melted right away, so that there was only a trace snowfall during the observation period. |

| 2025-02-17 | 8:00 AM | 0.26 | 0.8 | 0.05 | 0.5 | 0.04 | | Had a period of moderate rain yesterday after the 7 a.m. morning observation. A strong cold front came through with high winds and a sudden drop in temperatures. Precipitation turned to snow quickly. Snow was showery in nature through the period and not much accumulated until late afternoon when we began to see a dusting form on some surfaces. Snow continued into the evening and overnight. This morning had about 0.8 inches of snowfall, with a SWE of 0.04 inches. Had 0.21 inches of liquid in the gage before the snow started. Had 0.05 liquid from the snow component of this storm system and 0.26 from inches of precipitation in total through the observation period. Cloudy at observation, though there were some thin spots where it appeared the sun was trying to show through. River levels are up and much of the campus is under water. |
| 2025-02-16 | 7:00 AM | 3.90 | 0.0 | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | | River has risen above flood and it appears based on forecast that we will have 4-5 feet in our basement today. There was also a street closure out on our main road. We had thunder during the observation period, through late afternoon and early evening, and again during the overnight period. Conditions were cloudy at observation. |

| 2025-02-13 | 7:00 AM | 0.13 | 0.0 | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | | Cloudy at observation. There’s a noticeably cold northwest breeze this morning. Snow pack had completely melted by mid day yesterday. |
| 2025-02-12 | 7:00 AM | 0.89 | 1.2 | 0.20 | 0.5 | 0.15 | | Snow fell yesterday morning through to about 8:45 a.m., at which time precipitation mixed with rain. Precipitation was all rain after 10 a.m. with mixed precipitation at times until then. Measured 1.2 inches of new snow between observation at 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. with a SWE of 0.20 inches. Storm total snow is therefore 3.9 inches (2.7 for yesterday and 1.2 for the observation period). Total gauge catch for the observation period was 0.89 inches. There is only about 50% ground coverage for current snow pack, with many areas snow free. Where snow still exists, the depth averaged 0.6 inches. Whether rounding to 1 inch or just using the 0.6 inch value, one half (50%) provides an average snow pack depth of 0.5 inches when rounded to the nearest half inch. SWE of a core of 0.5 inches gave 0.15 inches. The snow pack is heavily water laden. The ground is very saturated and there is still obvious runoff in the drainage culvert on the campus property.

| 2025-01-27 | 7:00 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | T | T | | Clear at observation. Some patchy snow still resides in shady areas that receive little direct sunlight. |
| 2025-01-26 | 7:00 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | T | T | | Mostly cloudy at observation, mainly mid and high level clouds. Trace of snow with less than 50 percent coverage of snow pack. A considerable amount of melting took place yesterday. |
| 2025-01-25 | 7:00 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | 0.5 | 0.10 | | Clear at observation. About 60% coverage on the snow pack today. Where snow was at, average depth was just under an inch, 0.9. Will go with 0.5 inch snow pack today, or 60% of 1 inch rounded to the nearest half inch. |
| 2025-01-24 | 7:00 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | 1.0 | 0.09 | | Cloudy this morning, and cold. Not much change from yesterday. About 80% snow coverage, and average 1.2 inches snow pack where snow exists. So will go with 1 inch snow pack again today (1 x 0.8 = 0.8 inches, 1 inch rounded to the nearest half inch). |
| 2025-01-23 | 7:00 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | 1.0 | 0.12 | | Clear at observation. Very cold again this morning. Beginning to show some bare ground. About 80% coverage. Where there was snow on the ground, average was about 1.4 inches. Therefore went with 1” snow depth, (80% of 1.5 = 1.2 inches, rounded is 1”). |
| 2025-01-22 | 7:00 AM | T | T | T | 1.5 | 0.10 | | Clear at observation. Very cold! Has some snow showers move through yesterday evening. The stronger, more intense cells went around us, especially to the north. You could see the snow “shafts” and lower visibility in some of the cells in the distance. But little if any additional accumulation here. |
| 2025-01-21 | 7:00 AM | T | T | T | 2.0 | 0.16 | | With light snow at time of observation yesterday, will go with a trace of snowfall. But snow ended very shortly after observation, within an hour. Cloudy at observation this morning. However, while the cloud cover was opaque, it was also thin enough to see the moon, kind of like a frosty glass. |
| 2025-01-20 | 7:00 AM | 0.17 | 3.0 | 0.15 | 3.0 | 0.22 | | Mostly cloudy and light snow at observation. Very cold. Storm total snow was 3.2 inches for this event. |
| 2025-01-19 | 7:00 AM | 0.09 | 0.2 | 0.02 | T | T | | Light snow at observation. Was able to measure 0.2 inches of new snowfall on the board and on the hood of a vehicle, but otherwise much of the snow had melted by observation. SME off the board was 0.02 inches. There was a light dusting (trace) of snow on the grassy areas. Had a gage measurement of 0.06 inches at 10 pm last night and picked up an additional 0.03 inches of liquid through the overnight. |
| 2025-01-18 | 7:00 AM | 0.09 | NA | NA | T | T | | Very light rain at observation. Still a trace of snow and ice on the ground that hasn’t completely melted. |
| 2025-01-17 | 7:00 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | T | T | | Clear at observation. Much of yesterday was sunny. Ample sun and temps in the lower to mid 40s melted quite a bit of the snow and ice that was left. More than half of the ground is bare now, so went with a trace for snowpack. There are areas where snow and ice remain, generally where it is more shaded. In those locations snowpack is an inch or less. |
| 2025-01-16 | 7:00 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | 1.0 | 0.31 | | Cloudy at observation. Snow pack has melted to the point that there’s only about 80% coverage on the ground. Where there is snow, averages turn out to be just under an inch, which rounded makes snow cover one inch. With 80% coverage, snowpack becomes 0.8 inches (80% of 1.0), rounded to the nearest half inch keeps the snow pack at one inch. SWE was 0.31 inches. |
| 2025-01-15 | 7:00 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | 1.0 | 0.33 | | Clear at observation. A few spots on the ground are beginning to show through where the snow and ice have totally melted. |
| 2025-01-14 | 7:00 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | 1.5 | 0.38 | | Clear at observation this morning. |
| 2025-01-13 | 7:00 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | 2.0 | 0.40 | | Cloudy at observation. Average of 2 inches snow depth. |
| 2025-01-12 | 7:00 AM | T | T | NA | 3.5 | 0.46 | | Clear at observation this morning. Sampled several locations across the campus. Averages snow depth was 3.5 inches. Core had 0.46 SWE. Had a few flurries through the early morning yesterday, for about an hour or so after yesterday’s observation. Clouds gradually scattered out. |
| 2025-01-11 | 7:00 AM | 0.25 | 3.3 | 0.24 | 5.0 | 0.63 | | Snow began about 12:30 pm yesterday. It was quite light during the first 3-4 hours. Much of the new snow had melted during that first few hours of the storm, accumulating lightly only when intensity’s picked up at brief intervals. Snow picked up and began to accumulate more on the asphalt by 4-5 pm. A heavier band of snow developed during the evening (confirmed on the radar), during which the bulk of the snow had fallen. Snow tapered off to light snow and flurries by 10:30 pm. I measured 3.2 inches of new snow at that time. This morning I had an additional 0.1 inch that fell through the overnight. Thus, total new snowfall was 3.3 inches. SWE was nearly the same as the gage catch, different by only a hundredth of an inch. Snow depth averaged 4.8 inch, rounded to the nearest half-inch makes snow depth 5 inches. Water equivalent was 0.63 when melted, which seemed high. However I got the same amount from two different representative locations. So went with that total. |
| 2025-01-10 | 7:00 AM | T | T | NA | 2.0 | 0.36 | | Some flurries occurred through mid morning yesterday. Otherwise we gradually cleared out with some sunshine! Sky was cloudy this morning at observation. |
| 2025-01-09 | 7:00 AM | 0.02 | 0.9 | 0.02 | 2.9 | 0.41 | | Had very small ice crystals falling at observation, which appeared to be solid plates. Light snow through much of the day yesterday. Measured 0.7 inches of snowfall through 3:30 pm. Light snow through the evening and during the overnight added an additional 0.2 inches of snowfall, for a total of 0.9 since yesterday morning. Snowfall from the overnight was very fluffy. SWE totals include a sampled core from the snowboard for snowfall and a core from the field for snow depth. |
| 2025-01-08 | 7:30 AM | 0.02 | 1.1 | 0.02 | 2.7 | 0.38 | | Flurries on and off through the day and evening Tuesday, then light snow developed sometime after midnight. At observation, light snow was still falling. Snowfall was also quite powdery. |
| 2025-01-07 | 7:00 AM | 0.06 | 0.7 | 0.06 | 1.8 | 0.37 | | Snow during the afternoon as temperatures dropped through the late morning. Had a band of snow come through mid morning, around 10:30 am, with some decent size dendrites, but didn’t amount to much and melted right away. I believe temperatures were at or just above freezing, and there was still melting going on. But by late morning to noon it seemed temperatures dropped. Then snow began about 12:30 pm. We had about two hours of snow (smaller dendrites) that provided a half inch of accumulation, then lighter and more fluffy snowfall on and off through the remainder of the evening and night. |
| 2025-01-06 | 7:00 AM | 1.87 | 3.7 | 0.39 | 1.2 | 0.46 | | Lots of slush this morning. Still had 0.1 inch radial ice, but little if any ice on the snow board. Doesn’t agree with papers on the topic but flat ice was a little higher at about 0.15 inches at peak accumulation. Should have been closer to a quarter inch in theory but just too much melting going on. The Kentucky Mesonet 2” soil temperatures were in the mid 30s, which may explain some of the melting that was experienced. Had 3.7 inches of total snow through 1 pm yesterday. After that precipitation was basically all freezing rain after a very short period of transition, well less than an hour. So only a trace of snow/sleet after 1 pm. This morning at 7 am had 1.87 inches gage catch after melting, and 0.46 water equivalent form a snow/ice core that I took and 1.2 inch average snow/ice depth on the ground. We also had thunder during the period, yesterday evening at around 8 pm. |
| 2025-01-05 | 7:00 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | | Cloudy at observation. |
| 2025-01-04 | 7:00 AM | 0.01 | T | NA | 0.0 | 0.00 | | Mostly cloudy at observation time. Had snow showers through yesterday morning. Showers had ended by afternoon. Everything melted and there was no accumulation. |
| 2025-01-03 | 7:00 AM | T | T | NA | 0.0 | 0.00 | | Made note of a few flakes of snow in the air at observation time. However, no accumulation of snow, at least yet. |
| 2025-01-02 | 7:00 AM | 0.02 | T | NA | 0.0 | 0.00 | | Mostly cloudy at observation. Had showers through the morning and even a short period of snow showers through the late morning. No snow accumulation as everything melted because temperatures and the ground were too warm. |
| 2025-01-01 | 7:00 AM | 0.27 | 0.0 | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | | Light rain at observation, with a brisk north wind. |
