| 2026-03-07 | 7:30 AM | 3.06 | 0.0 | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | | An amazing amount of rain fell, mostly within the hour after it started late yesterday afternoon. At 5:40 PM yesterday I measured the 2.20 that I reported in the comments on the Significant Weather Report that I entered yesterday a little while after I measured. I had to put it in the comments instead of Gauge Catch for the reason I explained in the comments yesterday. Please check yesterday's comments for the reason since it seems to be a permanent problem with my phone. I am able to get around the problem on the Daily and Multi-Day reports since they have a default value for Gauge Catch of 0.00 with a decimal point instead of NA like the Significant Weather Report. By this morning it was up to the 3.06 that I am reporting. The Minor Flooding that I described yesterday in the Significant Weather Report has disappeared by this morning like I expected it would. So this morning there is nothing remaining of it described yesterday. Sorry about the long delay between measuring and reporting. I think comments are helpful like it said in the MOTD a long time ago, or maybe by then it had changed to The Squall Line. It sometimes takes a while to get back to my phone after measuring and on my phone it takes many minutes to type the details. I think it is worth it however. |
| 2026-03-06 | 7:30 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | | No precipitation of any kind within the last 24 hours either fallen or observed. |
| 2026-03-05 | 7:30 AM | 0.11 | 0.0 | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | | |
| 2026-02-27 | 7:30 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | | All snow completely disappeared about a couple of days ago from all of the front and back yards. It had completely disappeared from pavements before finally clearing completely from my yards. No precipitation of any kind fallen or observed within the last 24 hours. |
| 2026-02-19 | 7:30 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | | The gauge was completely dry this morning at my normal observation time. I am entering this report now having taken the observation at my normal time however had to leave right after. |
| 2026-02-14 | 7:30 AM | NA | 0.0 | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | | Except for a very few very slight streaks of snow in one part of the back yard the snow is completely gone everywhere. The very slight streaks are where the shadow of the house falls. The back yard is on the north side of my home and takes longer to melt specially where the shadow falls. Yesterday morning the shadow area was a solid patch of snow with the rest of the back yard clear and all of the front yard clear. So I reported the less than 50 percent however not yet 0 as a Trace on the Multi-Day report for yesterday that I entered this morning. However this morning I am considering the yard completely clear for the purpose of remaining Snowpack since the streaks are way less than 1 percent of the back yard with the front yard completely clear. The shadow of the house creates an anomaly where it takes days to completely clear after the rest of the back yard and all of the front have been clear for days. |
| 2026-02-06 | 7:30 AM | NA | 0.1 | NA | 1.3 | NA | | A scattering of graupel of different sizes from tiny to slightly larger makes up the 0.1 of New Snow. That on top of the 1.2 of Snowpack yesterday now gives 1.3 of Snowpack. The scattering of New Snow had large melted areas on pavement like driveway and sidewalks however not all melted on contract. |
| 2026-01-31 | 7:30 AM | NA | 0.2 | NA | 1.5 | NA | | A very slight amount of new snow this morning. I measured a few spots to get the average of 2/10 of an inch that I have of New Snow. I remember the NWS Chicago Weather Story yesterday mentioned bands of snow and more near the lake than farther away. Also three windows of snowfall with the third to occur this morning. There were a few flurries falling at the time I was measuring the New Snow and Snowpack. The Snowpack yesterday had decreased to 1.3 inches from the 1.6 of several days ago. It has been kind of cold for several days so it seems like less melting of the Snowpack than usually when it decreases a little each day. I did not do a melt of the Gauge Catch for the same reason like before. Since I have not emptied it in many days it would not be only the past 24 hours. So I have set the Gauge Catch at NA like the SWE for New Snow and Snowpack. |
| 2026-01-25 | 7:30 AM | NA | 1.5 | NA | 2.1 | NA | | The New Snow is 1.5 inches measured in a few spots. The Snowpack that had been 0.6 inches for a few days in the really cold temperatures is now up to 2.1 inches this morning. I always measure a few separate spots for New Snow and for Snowpack to try to get a correct measurement. There are usually very small differences within a few foot area so I measure to get the average. Since I have not melted and measured the gauge for a few days now I have entered NA for Gauge Catch since whatever is in it would be more than the past 24 hours. |
| 2026-01-19 | 9:30 AM | NA | 0.6 | NA | 1.6 | NA | | The last couple of days and still this morning have been very cold like predicted. The Snowpack yesterday morning of 1.0 inches was frozen then and now measures 1.6 like I am reporting. However the 0.6 of New Snow that is on top of the Snowpack I did measure separately on pavement that was completely clear yesterday morning. I always measure several spots separately for New Snow and Snowpack to try to get a correct average of each instead of only one spot in each of the two areas. |
| 2026-01-10 | 8:00 AM | 0.15 | 0.0 | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | | All liquid in the gauge like expected again from the above-freezing temperatures again including overnight. A little rain at time of measurement. No snow anywhere for days and none falling yet today however there is a possibility later. I check the NWS Chicago Weather Story every day for forecasts and other weather information. |
| 2026-01-09 | 7:30 AM | 0.63 | 0.0 | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | | All liquid in the gauge like expected from the above-freezing temperatures the past few days including this morning. Still a little windy this morning like predicted on the NWS Chicago Weather Story yesterday. Was very windy yesterday afternoon and evening like predicted. Flash flood warnings over NOAA Weather Radio yesterday evening for some areas mostly away from me in south Cook, however then within minutes including all of Cook. The rain the few times I looked yesterday afternoon and evening was heavy however not a downpour at those few times. So thankfully right here I did not get the flash flooding occurring elsewhere. The high winds once they had started yesterday continued through the evening and night. |
| 2026-01-01 | 7:30 AM | NA | 0.6 | NA | NA | NA | | Did not check the gauge this morning for a reason so I am reporting it NA. I measured the average of several spots on pavement that were clear by last night to get 0.6 for New Snow this morning. With drifting and melting and wind yesterday I do not have a measurement of Snowpack. Without a snowboard of existing snow to average since the lawn is so variable in height I am reporting NA for Snowpack. However I estimate it at 1.0 which actually was also the amount of New Snow yesterday. So yesterday's new plus existing snow by this morning looks the same as yesterday's New Snow itself was. |
