| 2025-02-14 | 8:00 AM | 0.41 | 4.5 | 0.41 | 10.0 | NA | | Yesterday was definitely a snow day and the coldest snow of the season. The day started out at -1 degrees and overcast. Wind driven light snow developed around 11am. A steady wind driven light to moderate snow fell until around 2:30pm, then let up. Hard to say how much fell since it was drifting and blowing off of flat surfaces. We had a break in the snow until 7pm, then had intermittent light to moderate snow throughout the night. Still snowing lightly at 8am this morning. Temps slowly rose throughout yesterday and overnight. Afternoon highs were in the mid to upper teens with the blowing snow. Temps warmed to 28 during the overnight hours. Catch gauge snow melt was unreliable due to blowing snow. Drifting was also an issue across flat surfaces, but managed to find several common depths on previously cleared surfaces to get a core sample. A fairly accurate snow depth was around 4-5 inches with 0.41 inches of melted down snow. At 8am with snow letting up we have 28 degrees. |

So far we have seen almost continuous moisture in rain or snow for 48hrs. Yesterday started out with a light winter mix at 32 degrees, but turned to mostly light rain by mid morning. We had a steady light rain most of all day with some intermittent breaks through the late-afternoon. Temps were in the mid 30's all afternoon. Light to moderate steady rain(intermittently moderate) fell throughout the late evening yesterday past midnight this morning. Around 3am this morning, rain turned over to snow. We had at least 1.5 inches of very wet snow on the white board this morning. Based on the catch gauge which was not open for snow due to collecting rain, the moisture in the cylinder from the rain was 0.68 and the snow in the drip cone that had not melted was 0.38 for a total of 1.06 inches. That brings the 48hr total up to 1.74 inches of moisture so far.
Mid Winter Water year update: So far for the 2024-25 water year we have 13.70 inches of precip since Oct 1st. Checking Data explorer in CoCoRaHS, That is 156% of normal for our location based on NOAA statistics and 141% of normal based on Prism statistics. For the 7 years I have been tracking data at this station, we are trending higher at this date for the 2024-25 water year than any of the previous 6 water years for the year over year trends. Off to a great water year! |

Yesterday morning started out at 26 degrees and overcast. We had 2.0 inches of snow yesterday starting at 9am. It snowed light to moderately until around 2pm, then turned over to a very light wintery mix. Highs were pretty steady around 31-32 degrees all afternoon. Around 6pm or so, moisture picked up again and it turned to a moderate rain through 10pm or so. Past midnight we had intermittent periods of light rain that is still continuing this morning. Temps overnight were steady at 32-33 degrees all night.
No accurate daily SWE could be calculated due to the rain the fell after the initial snowfall. However, based on shoveling the snow in the afternoon before the rain, the density was on the lighter side and would guess it would be at or a bit less than 10:1. We ended up with 0.68 inches of melted down snow/rain from the open catch gauge. At 8am it's 32 degrees with light rain and patchy fog.
Note: We still have a light snow pack at our elevation which had some patchy ground exposed on south facing slopes. |
