Remembering those we lost on September 11—may they rest in peace. |

| 2026-09-04 | 8:00 AM | 0.54 | 0.0 | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | | Rainfall total: 0.54 inches. When I checked the gauge during the afternoon of September 3, it already contained 0.10 inches. Overnight, the storm produced considerably more lightning than rain. Duke, my unofficial lightning-intensity gauge, retreated to the bathtub and was still there shaking an hour after the storm had passed. He was eventually coaxed out after I assured him the storm had moved on, and he spent the rest of the night passed out on the bed instead of stationed in the tub. Duke’s final report: high lightning intensity, followed by an all-clear and immediate return to sleep. |

| 2026-08-28 | 8:00 AM | 1.90 | 0.0 | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | | Rain fell intermittently from the morning into the early afternoon of August 27. The gauge showed an estimated 1.5 inches before an official inner-tube measurement was taken. Another brief storm occurred around 2:30 a.m., bringing the measured total to 1.90 inches. My dog serves as my unofficial lightning-intensity gauge: he retreated into the bathtub during the storm but came out calm rather than shaking, indicating plenty of lightning, but only for a short time. Gauge: Tropo. |
