| 2026-08-17 | 8:00 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | NA | NA | NA | | This was a tough call. The amount of water in the gauge seemed pretty remarkable for just dew or fog, but weather radar archives show no clear signal of a rain shower overnight, just a lot of diffuse light and dark blue. The answers in FAQ about how to deal with gauge measurements potentially from dew or fog as a form of precipitation versus a form of air moisture don’t help me decide what to do because indicates that if the ground is moist we should count it as precipitation. But the ground was already moist from the prior several days of heavy rain we had, and this morning the grass and deck and stone features were wet. So I guess I’ll call it precipitation and leave my record as it, but I’ll let it be your call whether or not to include it. I also was not sure what times to put down, but according to whether radar, there was a lot of light and dark blue over our area overnight from about 9pm to 5:30 am. I couldn’t be sure it wasn’t also bird and invertebrates in the air (bird migration has certainly started and young birds are in the midst of dispersals) in addition to precip or moisture, but I’m guessing it was mostly heavy heavy fog or dew. Interestingly, however, there was no fog when I woke up this morning at about 630: the air was clear, which typically is not the case when we’ve had a big rain followed by a heavy fog overnight (it takes quite a while of sun shining to b urn it odd). So maybe there was a light drizzle precipitating out of a dew? |

It started at about 6:50pm, and by 7:00pm it was in full force, with local landscapes quickly disappearing behind the density of rain! It began to taper off at 7:15pm, and by 7:45 the last of the trailing drips had ceased, though it looked like there might be more later and wild lightning (much of it cloud to cloud) continued just east of us for a couple of hours. That never materialized. So relived and happy to get this rain and hoping for lots more today and tomorrow! There were also some mere spits of rain in the mid morning yesterday, from about 9:00-11:00, on and off. Those times are approximate, but the deluge times are very accurate. |

| 2026-06-26 | 8:00 AM | 0.28 | NA | NA | NA | NA | | Finally significant rain of 0.28! It began with scary looking clouds all around us at about 6:45. A radar image at about 6pm over the Laramie-Cheyenne area looked wild with huge circular swirls or rain bands ranging from light to heavy. I worried it was a Tornadic cell. And I knew from radar that hail was possible from the cell headed towards us, and we did get some pea-sized hail, but very little and no damage occurred and the gauge continued 0.26”. I guess we were just of the fringes of the worst of the hail. It came down for at least 45 minutes, but it must have rained again in the night because another 0.02” were in the gauge this morning… not sure when it came but realtime rep radar archives show that there was a very small shower probably around midnight last night. I submitted a significant wether report last evening due to how much it rained in such a short time and suspecting it was worse nearby, assuming flash flooding was possible in the area. Time for rain start is accurate, but end time more approximate. So so very glad for how much rain we got. |

Then it was raining very lightly again when I awoke this morning at 6:30 a.m. and it had not stopped at the end time for this record, explaining the lack of an end time. But, it was drizzling when I woke this morning at about 6:30 a.m. and it had not yet ended by my 8:00a.m., explaining my lack of an end time—that will be reflected in tomorrow’s record. It isn’t at all clear when it started because realtime rep radar archives apparently didn’t really pick up that event. Maybe it was just very very heavy fog or coming from clouds so low that radar couldn’t pick it up? |

Then, it rained again during the night, and I thought it was about 4:00 am, but I can only find a rainstorm on realtime rap radar for about midnight, which puzzles me because I call hearing rain after it woke me and checking the clock and it said 4:00 am. So, my end time differs from radar by several hours. Unsure why the radar and my recalled experience differ. Anyhow, the second rainfall yielded another 0.045", for a combined total from both events (by including the 2 half hundredeths of both events) of 0.12". So, the times recorded below for this 24-hr period represent 2 very separate rainstorms, with a total period of rain probably not exceeding ~30 minutes, and the heaviest shower was the first; the midnight/4:00 am shower sounded very light |

| 2026-05-20 | 8:00 AM | 0.13 | NA | NA | NA | NA | | I’m not exactly sure when Ron began, as it was at or after dark. When I looked outside around d 9:00pm, the deck was Laredo wet. Fell time RAP radar archives show that it probably began a bit earlier than 8:00, maybe very lightly, and radar shows it ended round 4:00 a.m. it was a disappointingly small amount of rain given the hype on wether reports for substantial moderate rainfall. I think most went north or south of us. The soil is utterly saturated by now, so puddles and flooded sites remain in many places, though they begin to recede yesterday. |
| 2026-05-19 | 8:00 AM | 0.43 | NA | NA | NA | NA | | It just about never stopped raining lightly all day. It was heavier in the first half of the day but was lighter in the afternoon and evening. There is no start time because it never stopped in the prior day record, continuing right through my 8:00a.m. reporting time. I don’t know when the rain stopped. It was after dark and likely after I went to bed. So, I checked realtime rap radar archives, and estimated the end time according to what radar showed for my area, rain more or less ended around 3:00a.m. The deck was dry when I awoke at 6:45. Low-lying ag fields in the Cache la Poudre floodplain were flooded, huge puddles were everywhere in our area, and water was running in rivulets along the road near our home, which I almost never see. |

It began to rain again just about 6:00 pm last night, and it was still raining gently once darkness fell and was still raining lightly when I awoke at 6;00 this morning. It is still raining at recording time this morning, so no end time provided. Although there have been periods of heavier and lighter rain, it would be impossible to say when it was heaviest or how long. |

It’s so odd, but it seems that having so much come down gently and via snow, allowing much more deep infiltration, has made such a huge difference. I worry now that so much new growth may be hard to sustain given an expectation of a very long, hot, and possibly very dry growing season. I may need to severely trim plants back to keep their water needs in check unless rain continues to come in good amounts. But significant, possibly record-breaking heat is already expected all week. |

But the real event must have come after dark. We were unaware—asleep. According to radar, bands of rain came through repeatedly from about 22:00 or 23:00 to about 3:00 or 4:00. Radar archives made it look as though heaviest rain came through at least twice, once around 23:00 and again around 00:00. When I woke at 6:00, it was clear.
Nice soaking rain on top of what we had last week is such a relief!!!! |

It started with a mere sprinkle around 3:30, then stopped, then it began sprinkling on and off agin around 5:30 and by about 6:00 pm it had begun raining lightly but somewhat steadily, growing more steady as the next two hours passed until it was too dark to see. According to radar, it rained on and off all night, and radar makes it look as if it may continue on and off today. As of this data entry, however, the rain has stopped. In preparation for being away for 11 days, I watered heavily over the last two days, believing that once again the forecasters would miss the mark in the wrong direction from high percent chance of rain to fat chance. But this time it went the other way around with much more than projected 20-50% chance. But I’m glad I wanted well because the soil had become hydrophobic, nd having watered will have lowed much more of the rain to do some good at the roots of things! And I won’t worry so much bout fire while away. |

The first shower resulted in apparent drops on hard surfaces but didn’t totally wet anything. The second lasted long enough that, for example, our wood deck did become completely wet. The wind blew during both showers, possibly explaining the lack of even a trace of water in the gauge. So disappointing! Hoping for more significant rain today or tonight! |

| 2026-03-07 | 8:00 AM | 0.02 | T | T | NA | NA | | Although it continued to snow and rain mix throughout much of yesterday morning, not much more moisture accumulated after I had collected our gauge accumulation at our out-of-normal hour of 10:30am yesterday. It more or less tapered off by mid day, although it stopped and started a few times briefly after about 12:30-1pm. By evening, nearly all the accumulated snow had melted except in shaded and other spots where accumulations were able to add up a bit more (minor topographic snow traps) due to a bit of drifting with the wind while it snowed. Therefore, additional accumulation in the snow pack wasn’t measurable. Grateful for the moisture, but so disappointed that there won’t be any snow ground cover to last. Hoping the story is different in the foothills of the Front Range. |
| 2026-03-06 | 10:30 AM | 0.20 | 2.5 | 0.26 | 2.5 | 0.26 | | Not sure when the snow began, but real-time rap radar archive shows it began here with some flurries around midnight and then in earnest by about 12:30-1am. (When I got up at 6:30am, there was the most snow accumulation I saw for the rest of the dayeven though it kept coming down heavily for a few more hours before tapering on and off, sometimes heavy sometimes not at all, until about 1pm because it was melting almost as fast as it was coming down during the daytimes hours.) it was still snowing pretty well by 8:00am, and unfortunately I was rushing to make a 7:50am appointmen, so I didn’t have time to check the gauge until 10:30 this morning. So today’s catch is 2.5 hrs off my normal collection time of 8:00am and an unknown amount of the moisture came down after 8:00am. There is no end time end time because the precip continued to fall throughout much of yesterday morning and into the early afternoon and the added amount will be recorded in tomorrow’s record. There was 2.5” of snow on our snowboard at 7:30am (I had just enough time to at least do that), and the core sample (at 10:30am) produced 0.26” of water; however, the rain gauge had a bit less water than that, so it seems the snow must have been somewhat wind-driven, partially bypassing the gauge opening. This was borne out when examining objects outside, which were coated with snow to the windward side. It’s unclear how long the snow was heaviest, given that most of the accumulation came overnight, but based on radar archives in Real-time rap, it was from 4:00am-ish to about 9:00 or 10:00 am-ish. |

It couldn’t have amounted to anything because there was no sign of snow on the ground when I got home after dark. Not sure what happened overnight or early this morning, but the deck was too wet this morning for it to have been dew, and I don’t think it was from the previous day’s little squall because it would have been evident yesterday evening. It must have flurried again or briefly showered in the night or early morning today. I overslept this morning and by the time I got up, if there was any ice or snow, it was long melted. I put down the 9:00-9:20 times for the flurry I know happened yesterday morning, but the channel 9 weather news at10:15pm yesterday evening said it was flurrying in Fort Collins, but when I looked outside, I saw no precip falling and the deck was dry. So maybe there was another tiny shower or flurry last evening or early this morning before I got up. I see no other Fort Collins reports with a trace report indicating precip at times other than yesterday morning about the time Ilnew it flurried here. So, maybe, if it flurried or rained again, it happened after 7:00 or 8:00am this morning after reports were in? |

It did pick up a bit just before dark around 4:30pm. I don’t know when it stopped snowing, but I’m guessing it was mid evening. This is a real guess, not based on any actual information other than assuming by snow depth and the rate of accumulation at dark that it could not have snowed much longer than another 1-5 hours. |

Not sure when it started, probably around 6-6:30 am given the rate at which it’s sifting down, but radar showed no snow occurring even as it was coming down, so apparently it was too light to register on radar, but a skim of snow had accumulated on grass, stone, driveway rock/pad, sidewalk, deck, etc. There were still traces of snow from the last minor snow event in shadowy areas as well before the snow started. Again, it covered probably less than 1% of our 12 acres—only on the front and back lawns where aun doesn’t shine and in various spots of our shelterbelt. Light snow was falling at measurement time, so there is no end time on this record, and snow is projected to come on and off for the next few days. Very very cold (5º) and not expected to warm up much all week, with projected highs ranging from 12-45, and lows 2-18, so if we get a true accumulation, it may stick around for a while. |

| 2026-01-21 | 8:00 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | NA | NA | NA | | There are still skims of snow in Shady spots, but I, guessing it’s less than 1% of our 12 acres. |
| 2026-01-20 | 8:00 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | NA | NA | NA | | Was unable to measure “snowpack” today, but it did not precipitate agin on the last 24 hours. Almost no snow was lef where sun hit it yesterday, and in the shade there was some still left, probably <1”. If there is any snow remaining on the snowboard tomorrow morning, I will measure it then. |
| 2026-01-19 | 8:00 AM | 0.09 | 2.0 | 0.11 | 2.0 | 0.11 | | It began snowing lightly just before 10:0m last night. Not sure when it stopped, but local weather indicated it would stop at3:00am. I suspect it was earlier than that based on how much had already fallen (probably about 1”)by 11:3m. |

| 2026-01-11 | 8:00 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | NA | T | T | | It has been cold enough that some traces of snow persist in a few shady spots. |
| 2026-01-10 | 8:00 AM | 0.00 | 0.0 | 0.00 | T | T | | Essentially the only remaining snow is on the ground as a highly patchy skim of white in very few shaded places and I’m not even sure it, therefore, qualifies for a recording of T for snowpack. The storm was a real bust here in northern Front Range Colorado! |
| 2026-01-09 | 8:00 AM | 0.06 | 0.6 | 0.03 | T | T | | It began snowing very lightly at about 8:00am but wasn’t significant until about 10am. It didn’t snow much for long, and by 1:30 had pretty much ended. Snow was melting as it landed, as the tempt was at or above 32. A little accumulated on the grass and shrubs. By morning, all was gone except in shady areas of grass and on our deck. |
